The last few years have been a roller coaster for my family when it comes to healthcare. As a father of two babies I have seen my wife give birth twice since the Affordable Care Act was in place. I have also seen my mother go from an uninsurable cancer survivor to a fighter in the midst of a terrifying battle with stage four cancer. Throughout this past election season she made sure to remind me that she would not have coverage if it wasn't for the Affordable Care Act. It is no secret that I was not a fan of this bill. Because I am young, healthy and make an average amount of money I was in the healthcare premium sweet spot before the ACA came into effect. As Evalyn and Cohen were born my wife Kari stopped working full time. I also quit my full time job to run a few small businesses and work part time at my church.
